Principal's Message

I am Ty Smith, the principal at EPHS (Educational Partnership High School), and I am excited to serve this learning community. This is my twenty-fifth year in LBUSD, and within these years, I’ve held various positions in the district. I started out as a college aide, then I taught for twelve years, I was a pathway facilitator for a year, and this is my twelfth year as an administrator. I am passionate about education, and my goal is always to help students and families in whatever capacity is needed. I am enthusiastic about starting a new school year and embracing the changes taking place at EPHS, including our main campus changing locations. This summer, EPHS relocated from our site at 1794 Cedar Avenue, Long Beach to a new shared campus at 3701 E. Willow Street, Long Beach, where we will be co-located with Reid High School.
In order to provide students with a rigorous curriculum and to prepare them for postsecondary success, Long Beach Unified School District has adopted an independent study learning model, Edgenuity. Edgenuity courses are standards-aligned, interactive, and highly engaging. Edgenuity curriculum is independent study based; however, students take exams in person proctored by their teachers. In addition to that, teachers are available to provide support for students as needed. This is a shift from what EPHS has been historically, but I am confident that we will be prosperous as we navigate this new road. Our goal is to meet students where they are and provide them with the resources and tools that they need to be accomplished in high school and beyond. I am looking forward to leading EPHS and providing our students with the tools needed to succeed.
